Forum on Statistical Challenges in the Analysis of Police Use of Force

The National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) and Carleton College are pleased to announce an in-person forum in the Statistics Serving Society series, titled “Statistical Challenges in the Analysis of Police Use of Force." It will be held from November 9-10, 2023 in Northfield, Minnesota. Both new and established researchers are invited to attend! Spatial analysis of policing data will be included as one of the focused topic areas.

This forum will be hosted as a two-day, in-person workshop to overview research in this area and facilitate new collaborations that advance statistical methodology for analyzing police use of force. The breakout sessions are meant to develop research groups on focused topics within the broader domain. After the workshop, we will write a white paper on the discussion and plan for each working group to produce a manuscript suitable for publishing in a scientific journal.

More details and registration information, including a list of discussion topics and speakers, can be found on our EventBrite page and the NISS website. We have travel funding from the National Science Foundation to support early-career and student participants. Contact Claire Kelling (ckelling@carleton.edu) for travel support details or with any questions about the forum.
