Date: November 7-9, 2014
Location: Phoenix East/Mesa Hilton Hotel in Mesa, Arizona
Agenda: 2014 Field of Dreams Agenda (PDF)

The National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences is pleased to announce the Eighth Annual Mathematical Field of Dreams Conference, held again this year at the Phoenix East/Mesa Hilton Hotel in Mesa, Arizona. The Conference brings together faculty in the mathematical sciences and students who are from backgrounds that are underrepresented in those fields.

Predoctoral Scholars:

You will have the opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of applying for - and thriving in - a graduate program in the math sciences. Our Alliance Doctoral Student panel will discuss their graduate experience. They will talk about strategies for success, and how to pick a graduate program that will welcome, support, and mentor you throughout your graduate studies. Our Alliance Mentors will share with you what they look for when admitting a graduate student, what undergraduate courses are essential to your success in grad school and what their expectations are upon entering their program.  Our Alliance Doctoral Alumni Panel will share their wisdom with you and tell you about their different career paths and the positives and negatives of each. We will report on the success of the 2013 Uniform Applications Process and share information about the 2014/2015 Facilitated Graduate Applications Process.

You will also have the opportunity to meet with faculty and students from individual Alliance Graduate Program Groups (GPGs) during our Graduate Fair.  We have expanded the 2014 Graduate Fair to both Friday and Saturday to ensure ample time to network with over 40 institutions and programs.

Doctoral Scholars:

This is a great opportunity to meet other Alliance Grad students and to share your work and your goals. You will also have the opportunity to meet Alliance Graduate Faculty and to learn about our Postdoc program.  Doctoral Scholars also have the opportunity to present their research in the Poster Presentation session Friday evening.  You will also be able to share your experiences and knowledge by serving on program panels targeted at our Predoctoral Scholars.

Faculty and Corporate Partners:

Our Conference is an opportunity for faculty to discuss common research interests and form research partnerships. It gives Alliance Graduate Mentors an opportunity to get to know some of the most promising undergraduate students in the math sciences today. It is also an opportunity for faculty who would like to know more about the Alliance to learn, firsthand, about our goals and activities. There will also be opportunities to meet as regional groups or one on one if needed. Finally, the Alliance welcomes representatives of government agencies and industry who are interested in meeting our community of students and faculty. If you would like to join us please fill out the Field of Dreams 2014 registration form. Faculty can reserve their room by visiting the Phoenix East/Mesa Hilton Hotel Field of Dreams Conference site.

If you are not an Alliance Mentor and would like to be please fill out the Mentor Application Form!

How to Apply for the Field of Dreams Conference

Predoctoral Scholars:

Attendance to the conference is by invitation only and is limited to Alliance Scholars. Priority will be given to those students who are participating in the 2014 F-GAP program. Other students may apply and will be supported as funds allow. Students in an MS program at an institution that does not offer a doctoral program are also welcome. If you are selected to attend, we will pay for your travel and local expenses. Students must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents to apply.
